After losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, Liverpool are on alert as Los Blancos hover around another undisputed starter on their side.

Indeed, the player in question is Ibrahima Konate, the centre-back who Real Madrid have their eyes on as a potential target for the upcoming summer transfer window especially as David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger near the fag end of their career.

The Liverpool star has been on Los Blancos’ wish-list for a while now and is seen as a prime target given that his contract expires next summer.

As they did with Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid’s plan is to coerce the player to run his contract down and join as a free agent.

Liverpool’s counteroffer

As related by Foot Mercato, the Reds are alert now and looking to do everything in their capacity to prevent losing the star player for free.

So far, the player has resisted Liverpool’s approaches to renew his contract which expires next summer, and has been following Real Madrid’s unsaid expectations.

The Merseyside club, however, are not giving up and have reportedly presented the player with another renewal proposal, this time on better terms economically.

Needless to say, a lot rides on whether Konate sees the new offer to be good enough to accept or still has it in him to hold off for Real Madrid.

While a move this summer is seen as a remote possibility, it is unlikely that the two clubs can agree on financial terms in the short term.

The centre-back’s future is thus likely completely a matter for next summer, but his decision towards the new proposal now will settle the dust over his final decision.
