From preseason friendlies to Sunday’s Community Shield final, Mohamed Salah has yet to find his rhythm with Liverpool. And that’s causing concern.
On paper, Liverpool entered Sunday as favorites but fell 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the Community Shield final against Crystal Palace at Wembley. It was a match where Mohamed Salah drifted through like a shadow. The Egyptian star struggled to get involved, failed to complete a single dribble or cross, and lost all six duels he contested. Worst of all, Salah blasted his penalty well over Dean Henderson’s crossbar.
The English press did not hold back in their assessments—Daily Express handed him a 4/10. “He struggled to get into the match, touching the ball only six times in the first 37 minutes. He missed a golden chance to win it for Liverpool late on before firing his penalty over the bar. Poor.” wrote the outlet.
The Telegraph also gave him a 4/10: “New teammates are helping to share the load. That should be a positive as the season unfolds, but this match was a quiet one. He missed his spot-kick.”
Arne Slot offers reassurance for Mohamed Salah and Liverpool
Speaking to the press, coach Arne Slot remained calm and insisted that Liverpool will need some time to find the right balance. “We replaced four players. It takes time, both to adapt offensively and defensively,” he remarked.
Caught up in Liverpool’s attacking reshuffle, Mohamed Salah will need to rediscover his top form in the coming weeks. Since early March, Salah has scored just 4 goals and provided one assist in his last 13 appearances.
