Richard Hughes still has a lot of work to do on Liverpool's first-team squad before he packs his bags and exits Anfield at the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

At the moment, the Reds' sporting director has one foot out of the exit doors with Al-Hilal calling his name.

So, even though he's going to be exiting L4 this summer, he still needs to ensure that the Reds are set up to take on their title rivals this term.

Indeed, most of his focus has been on getting a deal for Bradley Barcola over the line throughout the last couple of weeks but, there are many other players that he could be looking at while trying to figure out whether a deal for the Frenchman is possible.

Because, even though Barcola would be an incredible addition for Liverpool, there's no guarantee that he'd be the perfect solution to their problems.

So, with this in mind, it's not surprising to see moves for other players now being mooted.

Liverpool may end up hijacking Paris Saint-Germain's move for Mika Godts

If it wasn't already clear before the summer transfer window opened, it's now obvious what position Liverpool are going to try and upgrade before anywhere else this summer.

Mohamed Salah has exited Anfield and, since he managed to have 22-goal contributions last season, it's a massive gap for the Reds to plug.

Indeed, the Egyptian King wasn't in his best-ever run of form but, the fact that he was still one of their most prolific attackers proves how poor the Anfield outfit were last term.

Since his exit was announced, Yan Diomande and Barcola have been Liverpool's main targets to replace him.

And, while negotiations are still ongoing with PSG for the latter of the two, it makes sense for them to explore other options as well.

"PSG isn't letting go of Mika Godts. After the rejection of a first offer of €45M, the Parisian club is preparing a new proposal," Sebastien Vidal wrote.

"Ajax is expecting around €65M, while the Belgian winger, already in agreement with Paris, is pushing to speed up the negotiations.

"Liverpool is also following the file."

Mika Godts would be yet another interesting signing for Liverpool

Over the last couple of years, Liverpool have welcomed several exciting players to their ranks.

Last summer was the most that the club had ever spent on new players with over £450 million being splashed by Hughes and Slot.

Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were expected to completely transform Liverpool's attack but, in reality, they actually made things worse.

Indeed, now that Wirtz has had a season to get used to the Premier League and Isak is finally fully fit to play, that could all be about to come true.

But, until their first few Premier League games have been completed, fans are holding back their expectations.

Godts is another youngster who has been of interest to almost every big club in the world.

He contributed to 32 goals for Ajax last term and, even though he was used as a left-winger in every single game he played, there have been times when the 21-year-old has been used as a number nine or even a right-winger.

There's a lot that could still go on at Liverpool this summer but, if PSG don't end up wanting to sell Barcola, Godts should be the next player on Iraola's hit list.
