Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Liverpool are looking to sign Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjaelland. The Reds made an attempt to bring him to Anfield in January, although this was rebuffed.
However, the club's scouts are now expected to be present at every Nordsjaelland game from now until the rest of the season keeping a close eye on the Ghanian midfielder.
This is not a surprise because there are two things that Yirenkyi is very good at which are Szoboszlai's biggest strengths as well.
First of all, he is versatile. Yirenkyi is a midfielder but he can also play as a right-back, and he can play not just as a no.8 but as a no.6 and he's even played as a centre-back in the past.
Liverpool scouts believe he's good enough to be a full-back even at the Premier League level, so like with Szoboszlai you're amost getting a two-in-one with Yirenkyi.
The other strength of Yirenkyi that is similar to Szoboszlai is his work-rate and pressing ability. The Ghanian international is just so good at winning the ball.
He has made the most recoveries in the Danish Superliga among midfielders this season and he has also won the most possession in the final third among midfielders.
Yirenkyi's constant running and ability to eat up a lot of ground is very similar to the way Szoboszlai covers so much distance on the pitch for Liverpool.
It's why the comparisons to the Hungarian are apt. Yirenkyi could easily be the next Szoboszlai at Anfield.
He is well worth keeping a close eye on in the coming months. This could be a no brainer of a transfer for Hughes and his recruitment team.
