Liverpool open Barcola talks as PSG set huge asking price

Liverpool have held preliminary talks over a move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with the France international emerging as one of the club’s leading attacking targets this summer.

The Reds’ interest remains at an early stage and there have been no formal negotiations between the two clubs.

However, Ben Jacobs reports that internal approval exists for the move, while Arsenal also admire the 23-year-old despite not making an approach.

PSG have placed a valuation of around €170 million (£145 million) on Barcola, using this summer’s inflated market as a benchmark.

The French champions are understood to have referenced Chelsea’s £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers and Manchester City’s £116 million move for Elliot Anderson when determining the winger’s price.

They also point to Barcola’s back-to-back Champions League titles and impressive World Cup campaign as justification for the figure.

Liverpool would be expected to negotiate well below that valuation if discussions progress.

Reports in France suggest there is a significant gap between PSG’s public asking price and the amount they may ultimately accept, with L’Équipe reporting that offers in the region of €120 million could be considered under the right circumstances.

Barcola remains under contract at the Parc des Princes until 2028, leaving PSG under no immediate pressure to sanction a sale.

Nevertheless, Luis Enrique has made it clear throughout the summer that only fully committed players will form part of his plans, while competition for places has intensified following the emergence of Désiré Doué and the continued presence of Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked with the France international during the transfer window, although reports indicate Barcola previously rejected an approach from Chelsea.

Liverpool, meanwhile, continue to assess options to strengthen their forward line, with Barcola now among the standout names under consideration.

Any move would likely represent Liverpool’s marquee signing of the summer, but significant obstacles remain before a deal can advance.

PSG are not actively looking to sell, the asking price is among the highest in world football, and negotiations would require considerable compromise if the winger is to leave Paris before the transfer window closes.
