Luis Diaz could be on his way out of Anfield this summer, with the Colombian winger reportedly convinced that the impending arrival of Florian Wirtz would end his Liverpool career.

It appears the feeling is mutual between player and club, with Sport reporting that Liverpool would be open to a sale once their record-breaking signing arrives.

Diaz has been an outstanding signing for Liverpool since joining from Porto in 2022.

Liverpool forked out £37 million to lure him to Anfield, and he has more than repaid their faith over the past few years.

However, he could now switch allegiances this summer, with Barcelona plotting a move. Diaz blew hot and cold last season, but he played an important role in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph.

The 28-year-old scored 13 times in the Premier League and weighed in with seven assists. When the parameters are stretched to all competitions, Diaz finished the campaign with 17 goals in 50 games.

Those impressive numbers helped to power Liverpool to their first Premier League title since 2020.

But with just two years left on his current contract and no prospect of a renewal on the horizon, Liverpool may be forced to sell this summer, and Barca are waiting to pounce.

Barce have a longstanding interest in Diaz, who has also been vocal about his desire to play for the La Liga champions. He could get his wish this summer.

At the heart of the uncertainty is Liverpool’s aggressive pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

The Germany international is widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest attacking midfielders and is a top priority for the Reds. But Leverkusen are playing hardball.

Wirtz is entering the final two years of his contract, yet Leverkusen have refused to budge on the valuation. The Reds have seen a mammoth £114m turned down by Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga runners-up are holding out for £126m, and Liverpool are expected to return with an improved offer. Although whether that’ll be enough to sanction a deal remains to be seen.

Despite the back and forth between both clubs, Wirtz is still expected to be wearing a Liverpool shirt from next season. Many believe an agreement is a matter of ‘if’ not ‘when’.

Wirtz’s arrival threatens Diaz’s position at the club. Barca are hoping they can strike a €60m (£51m) deal, but the Reds will not sell for anything less than €80 (£68m).

Meanwhile, reports claim Diaz feels underappreciated at Liverpool and believes this may be his final opportunity to make his dream move to the Spotify Camp Nou.
