Liverpool ownership Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are moving ahead towards a takeover bid for La Liga side Getafe. Despite current owner Angel Torres denying that a takeover was moving ahead in the summer, all of the noises coming out of FSG say that a deal is in the works.
Torres has hinted in the past that he would be open to selling Getafe, and off the record, Los Azulones have been open to bids for some time. However in the summer Torres harked back to the completion of the renovation work of their training facilities and stadium as the first date after which he would consider leaving the club. The works are scheduled for completion in 2028, with Getafe installing a roof at the Coliseum.
According to DM (via Diario AS), FSG have now completed a due diligence study on Getafe, and the results have come back positive. In essence, it means that a look over the club’s structure and finances has raised no red flags that would hinder moving forward with a takeover. Previous reports have indicated the deal could be worth in the region of €116m.

The Madrid-based paper also add that Liverpool were recommended Getafe as a potential option to purchase a club in Spain. Liverpool’s owners did previously consider a bid for Malaga, but Real Madrid General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez spoke highly of Getafe’s operation to FSG chief John Henry and company.
Getafe would be fifth club to be involved in multi-club ownership in La Liga, although not all are structured in the same way. The most recent takeover was Espanyol, who saw Burnley’s owners led by Alan Pace take over the club. Real Oviedo have been owned by the Pachuca group for a number of years, who are also operating in Mexico (with Pachuca). The most famous example is Girona, who are inextricably linked with the City Group, and Liverpool’s rivals Manchester City.
