Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs interested in the potential transfer of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

The highly-rated Portugal international has had a superb season for the Hammers, even if the club are struggling in general and possibly set to be relegated to the Championship.

Nuno Espirito Santo has previously been quoted as saying by Maisfutebol: “He’s (Fernandes) having a fantastic season, he works hard, and he’s very talented and disciplined. I hope he comes back well because we have an important game on Sunday.”

We’ve previously reported on Liverpool’s interest in signing Fernandes, while more recently there has been reported interest from Arsenal, as per the Times.

Now a report from TEAMtalk also mentions interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, whilst adding that West Ham feel they could bank as much as £70m from selling the 21-year-old this summer.

Where should Mateus Fernandes go next?

It seems like an impossible task for West Ham to keep hold of a talent like Fernandes, whether they avoid relegation or not.

It’s no surprise to see transfer rumours about clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Man Utd, with Fernandes looking like he could be a fine fit for any of them.

Arsenal arguably need more depth in the middle of the park, but it remains to be seen if Fernandes would start games regularly at the Emirates Stadium when he’d face competition from Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

Liverpool might be a better bet, as the Merseyside giants could perhaps do with replacing the out-of-form Alexis Mac Allister this summer and trying something different in midfield.

United could also surely give Fernandes a key role as Casemiro is about to leave at the end of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte has struggled and surely needs replacing.

Fernandes also needs to factor in the direction of these clubs, however, with this proving to be a very difficult season at Anfield, whereas Arsenal’s project is looking very promising, and things also seem to be on the up at Old Trafford after a difficult few years.
