Rooney and Carragher raise the alarm about Mohamed Salah

Liverpool: Rooney and Carragher sound the alarm over Salah
Club legend Jamie Carragher has raised the alarm: Mohamed Salah is no longer the Salah who once carried Liverpool single-handedly. With just four goals in eleven Premier League matches, the Egyptian is experiencing one of his worst starts to a season since arriving at Anfield. This harsh reality has prompted Carragher to directly challenge Arne Slot. In his view, the current system is no longer sustainable.
"If Salah isn’t scoring and isn’t putting in the defensive work, he brings nothing to this setup," the former defender said on The Overlap, making a clear call to reconsider the untouchable status of the number 11.
Carragher wasn’t the only one to reach this conclusion. Wayne Rooney, now a pundit, sees Salah’s struggles as a major tactical flaw that opponents exploit week after week. For the former Manchester United idol, Liverpool’s right flank has become “a recurring weak spot” since the start of the season, due to a lack of balance between attack and defense. It’s a criticism that comes at a particularly bad time.
Because Arne Slot will have to make do without Salah during AFCON 2025, forcing the Dutch manager to speed up his thinking. He has attacking options, but none possess the impact, experience, or aura of the Pharaoh at his very best.
For the first time in years, the question is being asked openly: can Liverpool continue to rely on a struggling Salah? The coming weeks, before his departure for international duty, will reveal whether Slot opts for adaptation… or revolution.
