One Liverpool star has confirmed publicly that he held talks with a Premier League club to leave Anfield.

was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January. The Scotland captain's contract expires at the end of the season and it's not expected that he'll sign a new one.

And so it made some sense that clubs would try to sign him. Spurs held an interest - and we imagine they still do - but Liverpool ultimately couldn't sanction a sale with their squad in the state it's in.

Robertson remains at Liverpool, then. We expect he'll depart once the season is done, unless there's a major turnaround in plans, and he's now spoken a little in-depth about the talks with Spurs.

“There was obviously interest there — there was discussions had with both sets of clubs,” he told the Athletic. “But the decision was that I wanted to stay. I was never not committed. I’ve been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I’ll be committed until I’m no longer needed.

“That’s always been my mindset. This club has given me everything and I’ve given this club everything.

“It’s been a fantastic relationship so hopefully that continues and obviously January happened, but it is now gone. Now we move forward.

“My focus never came off trying to help the lads on the pitch and in training.”
