Liverpool could soon add a new Brazilian to their starting XI. One star is targeted at €40m.

Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool this summer. His contract talks have now ceased and the Frenchman departs at the end of June.

Exactly where he's off to is unclear, so all we know is that Liverpool now have a gaping hole in their defence. It's something that needs filling if they're to get back to where they want to be.

So what are the options? Well, senior centre-backs who are ready to step right into a starting XI are few and far between. Especially as the likes of Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano, two of the best on the market, have committed elsewhere.

One option Liverpool are looking at, though, is Juventus defender Gleison Bremer. Gazzetta Dello Sport claim the Reds have their eyes on Bremer and a new report from the same outlet suggests a €40m offer would get it done.

Bremer has been linked with Liverpool since his days with Torino and he remains one of the best defence-first options going. The big question mark hanging over him is the serious injury he's still really working his way back from.

But perhaps Liverpool don't see that as quite as big of a risk as some would. They do have Jeremy Jacquet to step into the XI if need be, and Joe Gomez may now stay for another season.

All we can say for sure is that a move for Bremer takes a giant step closer with Konate's exit. Potentially a big enough step that Liverpool get it done.

Gleison Bremer: Situation Summary

Juventus Campaign and Stats

As of 29 May 2026, Gleison Bremer has concluded his domestic campaign with Juventus under Luciano Spalletti. The 29-year-old Brazilian centre-back endured a fragmented season due to lingering fitness issues but still made 30 appearances, chipping in with three goals and anchoring 14 clean sheets. His season cut short slightly early after he picked up his fifth yellow card in a 2–0 defeat to Fiorentina on 17 May, forcing him to miss the final fixture through suspension.

Transfer Battle and Release Clause

With Juventus missing out on Champions League qualification, a fierce summer transfer battle is brewing for the defender. Inter Milan have reportedly made concrete approaches to Bremer's representatives to steal a march on his signature. However, Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Manchester United are also lurking. Prospective suitors can bypass club negotiations entirely by activating his €58 million (£47 million) release clause, which becomes active between 1 August and 10 August.
