Liverpool have been handed a tough Champions League draw as Arne Slot’s Reds will lock horns against Ligue 1 leaders PSG in the RO16 stage. Liverpool could have been drawn to SL Benfica. As they topped the league phase in the Champions League, Liverpool are seeded, which means they will host the return leg against Luis Enrique’s Les Parisiens at Anfield. It is not the only advantage Liverpool have over their Ligue 1 rivals.
Indeed, Liverpool will benefit from extra rest days as the Reds have no games scheduled the weekend before their trip to France for the first leg. The first weekend of March is dedicated to the FA Cup in England, a competition Liverpool are already out of after being knocked out by Championship relegation-fighting side Plymouth Argyle (0-1).
When Mohamed Salah and his Liverpool teammates will benefit from extra rest days, PSG will host fellow Champions League-playing Ligue 1 club Lille OSC at Parc des Princes on Saturday, March 1st. Although, it should be said Luis Enrique will be tempted to rotate his squad given their 10-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 standings. Between the Champions League games against Liverpool, PSG will travel to a resurgent Rennes side under the tutelage of Habib Beye whilst Liverpool will host Premier League bottom boys Southampton.
