There has been a pattern in Liverpool’s defensive recruits of late.
We’ve seen Richard Hughes conclude big-money deals for Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni - who both seem close to making a breakthrough to first-team duties.
Just behind them in the pecking order are Mor Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Noah Adekoya - whose signings have also been wrapped up.
It sets Liverpool up well in defence - as the club have picked out several potential stars of the future to lead the way. And that strategy is now set to be replicated up front too - where the Reds are closing in on signing “the future best winger in the world”.
Yan Diomande, 19, has been making waves at RB Leipzig since transferring from Leganes in summer 2025. The Ivorian tyro has scored eight goals for the Red Bulls in the Bundesliga in his maiden campaign - and added another six assists.
Hype is certainly building around Diomande - with Liverpool leading the way ahead of several top European sides reported to include Bayern Munich and Tottenham.
And the Premier League champions are about to clinch a deal for the wide forward according to a new report in Football Fan Cast.
Talks have been ongoing according to the report with Diomande set to leave German football just one year after joining. He signed a five-year contract until 2030 - meaning RB are entitled to demand a high fee for his services.
Indeed the report claims that Liverpool are ready to go close to their transfer record in order to tie up this deal - the £125m they paid to Newcastle last summer for Alexander Isak.
“Richard Hughes wants to refresh the wide options in the squad this summer, with progress now made towards their marquee arrival,” the report reads.
“Having held regular talks with his representatives in recent months, Liverpool are now nearing an agreement with RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande.”
Diomande was sounded out for a January transfer but it was deemed a non-starter. However with replenishment set to happen on Liverpool’s flanks at the end of the season instead it will be soon time to welcome the young African sensation.
"They've been working on this since before the January window, but there was never an option to make it happen in January,” the report continues.
"They think this is the future best winger in the world and are willing to go near their transfer record again to make it happen this summer."
Liverpool have got a decision to make over Mohamed Salah - who is out of contract in 2027 but attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
And Federico Chiesa too has been tipped to move on after a frustrating spell on Merseyside.
