Liverpool have been told that their new deal with Adidas will take them closer to Manchester United. The Reds are expected to ditch Nike next year.

The deal will see Liverpool return to Adidas, with whom they've worked twice before. It's a different structured deal than with Nike, too.

Liverpool were paid a fairly low figure by Nike but with bonuses that saw it grow massively. With Adidas, it's much more of a lump sum up front - more of a guarantee, in other words.

And it's a deal that should make a world of difference, too. Liverpool are hoping to put themselves up with the biggest earners in football.

They've long been behind the truly massive earners, like Manchester United and Real Madrid. Recent years, however, have seen Liverpool close the gap.

And this new deal is another massive step in that direction.
