Right-back is back at his boyhood club after an acrimonious exit

Trent Alexander-Arnold has made clear his feelings on facing Liverpool tonight in the Champions League with a simple one-word message to fans.

The right-back is back in England following his controversial move to Real Madrid over the summer, which angered a section of the Reds' fanbase to the extent that he was booed during his final appearances for his boyhood club.

Alexander-Arnold's contract had expired which meant Liverpool were not due a transfer fee for one of the world's best right-backs, though Madrid did eventually agree to pay around £8.4m so Alexander-Arnold could play for them in the Club World Cup in June.

The England international returns to Anfield tonight for the first time since his acrimonious exit, but appears to harbour no ill will towards the club or city.

Ahead of the game, Alexander-Arnold posted a picture of himself arriving in England with the Madrid squad, adding the caption "Home".

It remains to be seen if Alexander-Arnold will get on the Anfield pitch tonight. He has not featured since injuring his hamstring in September, meaning he has played just 13 minutes of football since August.

Head coach Xabi Alonso has included Alexander-Arnold in his last two matchday squads, though has not called upon the player as a substitute.

Alonso said: "He’s available, and he didn’t play the other day because of the circumstances of the match. We need him because he has tremendous quality. It’s a new stage for him, and we have to help him and give him what he needs to perform because he’s an exceptional player in this squad.”
