Liverpool vs Athletic Club LIVE
Arne Slot’s Liverpool play their final pair of summer friendlies today, hosting Athletic Club in a double header at Anfield ahead of next weekend’s Community Shield. It has been a successful pre-season for the Reds, who have won three of their four outings so far, losing only to AC Milan. With their Premier League title defence due to kick off in less than two weeks, these matches will be the final chance for players to impress ahead of the new campaign.
With 180 minutes of football on the docket for tonight, fans can expect to see most, if not all, of the club’s senior players involved, with some academy hopefuls also likely to feature. Transfer speculation continues to swirl around the club and the potential arrival of Alexander Isak after Newcastle rejected a £110million bid for the prolific Swede last week.
Fresh tributes to Diogo Jota are expected ahead of kick-off in this, the first match to be held at Anfield since his passing. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis.

We will have to wait until the late kick-off to catch a glimpse of Nico Williams.
Alejandro Berenguer will be one to watch in the middle. He hit six La Liga goals and seven assists from attacking midfield last season.
There is plenty of rotation elsewhere in the XI, though. Of the XI which faced Man United at Old Trafford in the Europa League second leg back in May, just three will start in the early kick-off here.

Virgil van Dijk has followed Arne Slot in paying tribute to Diogo Jota ahead of today’s matches.
He told Liverpool’s website: “It has, of course, been a very challenging time. First and foremost for Diogo and Andre’s family, for Rute and the kids. They are the people who must always come first in all of this. We must never forget that, and we cannot imagine their pain in this moment.
“It is still a bit surreal, to be honest, but we are coping in the best way possible as a team, and we are all trying to do the best job we can in order to get through this really difficult time. With everything that happened, it has been strange having to now try to carry on with work, with football. We will never forget Diogo, of course, but we just have to try to honour his memory. That’s what we try to do each and every day.
“I always come back to the fact that we have to look after Diogo’s family, his parents, and that’s the main thing. You think about so many different things, and it’s difficult to process. You can’t imagine the pain, the feeling that they have. That’s why we try to be there as much as we can, and for each other as well.
“That’s also why it is very important that we honour and carry on his legacy, not only for now and the next couple of months, but for as long as we can, because that is what he deserves. Obviously, we know that we will be reminded of him at games and at different grounds that we go to. We have seen that already in pre-season – because it is still so fresh.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has sent a heartfelt message to Liverpool supporters as they brace for their first home match since Diogo Jota’s passing.
“It has been a tough time for everyone connected with the club, but especially for Diogo’s family, his wife, his children and friends.
“We cannot imagine the pain that they have been going through, and the club will continue to give them all the support they can going forward. We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go.
“I want to mention the strength and the courage of my players here, too. They have found themselves in one of the toughest positions imaginable, but the way they have come together and the way they have conducted themselves, on and off the pitch, is a credit to them and to this football club. We really couldn’t have asked more of the boys, and I am extremely proud of them all.”

Arne Slot has opted for a more youthful squad for the first of today’s two friendlies.
Rio Ngumoha returns to the squad after dazzling in the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, scoring his first senior Liverpool goal against Yokohama FM.
Slot adds a dash of experience with the additions of Tsimikas, Robertson, and Mac Allister.
Darwin Nunez reappears despite the growing regularity of reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
The same is true of Harvey Elliott, widely linked with a move away this summer.
