The Reds have seemingly recovered from their first setback of the season, with Arne Slot’s side putting their defeat at home to Nottingham Forest behind them by beating AC Milan and Bournemouth. This year’s defending champions are strong favourites to progress into the fourth round this evening, having enjoyed a fine start to Slot’s first campaign.

New Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui, meanwhile, has endured a very different start. The former Wolves coach has overseen only two wins in his opening six games and his team were booed off following Saturday’s Premier League defeat to Chelsea. Under pressure already, Lopetegui could do with what would be a statement victory.

Julen Lopetegui believes Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool is a “big opportunity” to secure his first statement win as West Ham manager.
