Liverpool have accepted they could lose Luis Diaz this summer, but they won’t let him go on the cheap.
According to Bild, the Reds have slapped a whopping €80 million asking price on the Colombian winger. This comes after Bayern Munich submitted an opening offer worth €52m.
Their bid falls well below Liverpool’s asking price, but both clubs are still in negotiations.
Bayern is keen to finalise the deal. They’re looking for reinforcements on the left flank and have set their sights on Diaz after failing to sign Nico Williams.
The 28-year-old is unsettled at Liverpool and is poised to leave the club this summer. He has two years left on his contract but wants a bumper pay rise on his current £55,000 per week salary.
Liverpool have refused to grant his wish, so a summer exit is on the cards.
Díaz reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with the club that will allow him to leave if a bid exceeding €80m is tabled.
His representatives have also told Liverpool that the player is keen to join the Bundesliga champions.
However, Bayern are reluctant to meet Liverpool’s asking price. They don’t want to offer more than €60m plus performance-based bonuses.
Diaz doesn’t have a high resale value, but that hasn’t deterred Bayern.
Transfer talks were initially put on hold out of respect after the death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota following an unfortunate accident.
However, Bayern have maintained close contact with Diaz’s camp and are committed to getting a deal over the line.
Liverpool haven’t made any moves to sign a replacement, but they’ve been linked with a move for Olympique Lyon wonderkid Malick Fofana and Real Madrid star Rodrygo.
