Liverpool are eyeing Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet as a replacement for Ibrahima Konate, according to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Contract extension talks with Konate have not progressed well, and he could leave the club as a free agent next summer.

Jacquet, who is also on Arsenal’s radar, is top of their wishlist. Liverpool have scouted the 20-year-old Frenchman extensively, and have concluded that he ‘has something special’.

The French youth international has featured in 15 Ligue 1 games this term, and he has impressed.

Jacquet loves to dribble despite being a centre-back. He is a constant aerial threat from set-pieces, comfortable on the ball and an expert at picking out attacking teammates.

Arsenal wanted to lure him to England during the last summer transfer window but opted against tabling a serious bid.

Jacquet extended his contract with Rennes to 2029 in May, and suitors may have to pay a sizeable fee to convince them to part with him.

More clubs will join the race to sign Jacquet, and joining a team where he is guaranteed regular playing chances will be more appealing to him.

Konate had been strongly linked with Real Madrid, but they are reportedly no longer interested in signing him next summer.
