Liverpool want to sign one of the best players in the Premier League. He's flying under the radar - for now.
There's no question that Liverpool need to look at centre-backs right now. Giovanni Leoni's injury keeps him out for around a year, leaving the Reds short at the back.
They wanted to head into this season with Marc Guehi as an option, of course, but that deal collapsed at the last minute. Even then, Guehi's arrival would have signalled Joe Gomez's exit - Liverpool still would have been down to three centre-backs.
The issue of Ibrahima Konate's contract also creates a need to look at the market. He may well choose to leave at the end of the season and he's completely free to do so.
It's something that would send Liverpool into a bit of a panic. They don't have a replacement right now - and Guehi is not simple to sign as he comes to the end of his own deal.
That'll be why Liverpool have their eyes on another option. One who they feel is flying under the radar.
Football Insider claims Liverpool have their eyes on Maxence Lacroix. The Frenchman joined Crystal Palace a year ago and has been one of the most impressive centre-backs in the Premier League since.
The article claims Liverpool feel he's flying 'under the radar' and is actually one of the best around. It's possible they could get in 'first', then, and try to sign Lacroix without a proper bidding war.
However, we have our concerns. For one, Guehi almost certainly leaves Palace next summer and so it's impossible to believe they'd be up for letting another key centre-back leave.
