Last summer, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was in high demand as several clubs were linked to him, but Napoli stood firm in keeping the player despite no contract extension in place.

Liverpool was among the suitors willing to pay top dollar to secure the Georgian. Nonetheless, the summer transfer window came and went with Kvaratskhelia remaining with the Serie A side.

However, once the winter transfer window came around, it was a different story, especially since Napoli had not yet reached an extension with the forward. As a result, the Italian club was open to selling and PSG paid €70 million in January to secure him.

Did Liverpool offer more money for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?

Securing €70 million isn’t a tiny lump of money but a new report from Gianluca Di Marzio reveals that Napoli could’ve received a higher transfer fee had they budged from their stance last summer.

According to Di Marzio, Liverpool offered €100 million for the 24-year-old last summer, with the condition that he would stay at Napoli for another year before joining the club in 2025.

On Wednesday, the Reds had a first-hand look at the player they wanted to secure as Kvaratskhelia generated two key passes and scored, but after a VAR review, was ruled offside.
