Liverpool have early plans to spend another massive amount. One wonderkid could stop them, however.
Liverpool have consistently been linked with a move for Anthony Gordon for years now. The Scouser is a boyhood Red, after all, and there doesn't seem to be any doubt that he'd jump at the chance to move to Anfield.
A move very nearly went through in 2024, of course, with Newcastle United desperately trying to meet PSR regulations. Only some last-minute sales prevented them from sanctioning it - but that didn't stop interest from Liverpool.
Nor will it have stopped Gordon's own desire to move to Liverpool. Teamtalk suggest he's still eager for the transfer, even if it would set the Reds back close to £100m.
Liverpool may feel they need to spend that kind of money, though. Their lack of a dynamic winger this season has had a massive negative effect on the side, felt hard because Luis Diaz left without a replacement.
There is every chance that the club decide they should spend big on a new winger in an effort to rebalance the attack. Gordon, with his homegrown status, may well be at the top of the list.
Liverpool are almost certainly looking at a new winger for next season and expect Gordon to be near the top of any list. However, Rio Ngumoha can change it all.
The teenager generated even more hype around him with his efforts against Nottingham Forest as a substitute on Sunday. He looks like a kid who's ready to make an impact and we expect him to have more minutes between now and the end of the campaign.
But even if those minutes are limited, Ngumoha could affect the transfer window. Liverpool will not want to sign anyone for that left flank if they believe their teenager is about to explode into form.
The Reds can't afford to block his progress and while such thinking may have been premature in 2025, it won't be in 2026. Ngumoha must be in and around the starting XI from next season if he proves he's good enough.
We expect he will do that, eliminating any chance of a £100m left-winger. Ngumoha has a few more months to prove he's the future and change those transfer plans.
