Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton admits it has been his “toughest season” because of a lack of game time at the club, but says he is raring to go for the U21 Euros with England.
The 22-year-old failed to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds as they won the title in Arne Slot’s first season, and missed the end of the campaign with an injury.
But now back with the England Under-21 side ahead of the European Championship this summer, he says he is looking forward to playing more regularly.
“When you’re not playing, your confidence sort of gets shot down a little bit,” he said.
“It’s nice to come back and play here with some unbelievable footballers who will hopefully go very far in the game. I think they will.
“It’s been great to be back with the team and back with the whole staff.
“It’s been the toughest season mentally for me. Obviously I’ve coped with it very well because I’ve got people around me but it’s been very tough and I think I’ve coped with it as well as I possibly could.
“When you’re not playing as a footballer that’s as hungry as I am it does hurt and it’s tough, especially when I wanted to go out. I wanted to play and go on loan and get more game time.
“I chatted to the manager. It could have gone a lot worse than it did but it probably could have gone a lot better than it did.
“It’s still been a good season, I’ve still developed and I still feel really sharp and ready to go.
“It’s hard to not get minutes and the minutes have been very limited for all of us (Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah).
“It’s been a learning season. You’ve got to have these type of seasons where you’re trying to learn.”
