Tino Livramento is reportedly expected to be ruled out of the entirety of England’s World Cup campaign due to injury.
The 23-year-old had sustained a calf injury with five weeks left of the Premier League season but will now be replaced by Chelsea defender Trevor Chalobah, who was on the Three Lions stand-by list as per Sky Sports Football.
Suffering a hamstring injury in training, reportedly “away from the cameras”, the call has been made that Livramento will not partake in his first World Cup match against Croatia on Wednesday and is a doubt for the other two group games.
FIFA’s rules state that a team may replace an injured player no less than 24 hours before a World Cup game, meaning England had to act fast making a decision on whether the Newcastle defender would play a role in the tournament.
Many fans will have anticipated either Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to have received the call up instead of Chalobah, yet has been snubbed once again by England manager Thomas Tuchel.
The former Liverpool defender made the preliminary squad of over 50 players but failed to make the final cut for Tuchel’s 26-man squad to compete in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has also been overlooked, with the centre-back having publicly expressed his disappointment at not making the 26-man World Cup squad after a good season under Michael Carrick.
England’s first meeting with Croatia since the opening game of their Euro 2020 campaign will get underway on Wednesday 17th of June at 21:00 (BST) live on ITV1 and ITVX.
