The Japanese striker, who arrived at Celtic from Kawasaki Frontale for £1.5 million as their only fee-paying forward signing last summer, endured a difficult spell at the Hoops.
He failed to score in 11 outings – mostly from the bench – before completing a loan move to Preussen Münster at the end of January.
Since relocating to Germany, Yamada has once again struggled for game time, making just one start before being hooked at half-time, and clocking only 60 minutes across four further substitute appearances.
His situation has worsened in recent weeks, having not been included in the squad for the club’s last three fixtures.
Despite that, sporting director Jan Uphues has stood by the decision to bring Yamada in from Celtic.
Uphues said via CW: “We had to act back then because we had a lot of injuries. Fortunately, everyone is healthy again now, which has created more competition within the squad.”
“Shin hasn’t had as many opportunities as he would have wanted recently, but I am certain he will get his chance in the remaining five matches in Bundesliga 2.”

The arrival of Shin has been viewed as further evidence of shocking decision-making at the club, with the forward now grouped alongside underwhelming additions across the summer and January such as Tomas Cvancara, Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka in what is the most unconvincing Celtic squad in recent memory.

However, unlike the January signings, Shin was secured on a permanent deal and still has three years remaining on his contract. With reports suggesting he earns around £8,000 per week, his situation adds to concerns over the club’s disastrous handling of transfer fees and wages.

The squad continues to feature a number of unsuccessful recruitment projects, with Shin being the poster-boy of for Celtic’s recruitment shambles.
