After edging Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield last Tuesday night, Paris Saint-Germain now shift their focus to another Premier League opponent, Aston Villa, with a spot in the semifinals at stake.
PSG fought past Liverpool in a hard-fought match, ultimately needing a penalty shootout to secure the win. Aston Villa, on the other hand, had a much smoother journey, thrashing Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The English side won the first leg 3-1 last Wednesday, and the second leg went into extra time. Marco Asensio, on loan from PSG, netted twice, while Ian Maatsen added another in a 3-0 victory to seal the tie.

While the tie between Aston Villa and PSG won’t be until next month, Lucas Beraldo was asked about what has the squad clicking as of late and his initial thoughts on the English side.
“We have studied our opponents a lot,” Beraldo told reporters on Sunday (h/t Paris Fans). “We prepare for each match as if it were our last, and I think that gives us results… We are all ready to play, no matter who is on the pitch. We are going to have a great game there as well.”
Unai Emery returns to the club he managed from 2016 to 2018, where he won a league title, two Coupe de France trophies, two Coupe de la Ligue titles, and two Trophée des Champions. After Villa’s win over Club Brugge, the Spanish manager said, “It will be fantastic” to return to Paris.
As for Asensio, he will face the coach who limited his role this season, prompting his move to Villa Park during the winter transfer window.
