FlaZoeiro and FlaBase report that Lugano are in talks to sign Flamengo defender João Carbone, with the Brazilian club close to agreeing a sale.

The 21-year-old has aged out of under-20 football and is not in Filipe Luís’s plans. His deal runs until December 2026, and from mid-year he can sign a pre-contract elsewhere, so Flamengo are seeking to conclude a transfer.

Carbone’s brightest run came early in 2024, when he started pre-season with the first team. In a friendly against Philadelphia Union he released Everton Cebolinha with a long pass to win a penalty, which Pedro converted. He also took Flamengo’s final penalty in last year’s Under-20 Club World Cup final against Barcelona.

He did not feature again that year, then spent 2025 on the bench behind Iago and João Victor under Bruno Pivetti. Now overage for the under-20s, he is seeking a move.

In 2026 he was sent off inside 10 minutes against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca, having been used at left-back, and the game finished 3-0.

Elsewhere in the academy ranks, Iago has been sold to Orlando City and has already arrived in the United States for medical tests. Lucas Silva, 19, is due to sign with Cuiabá soon.
