Paris Saint-Germain are almost there. If a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title isn’t already mathematically assured, it is all-but theirs, and Luis Enrique knows it.
PSG struggled but did eventually get over the line, beating Stade Brestois 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night. That win extended PSG’s lead at the top of the table to six points with just two games remaining.
In midweek, Les Parisiens will face their closest and now only challenger, RC Lens. A win for Pierre Sage’s side would reduce the gap to three points going into next weekend, the final gameweek of the Ligue 1 season. On the final day, PSG will face Paris FC, while Lens will face Olympique Lyonnais. But even if Les Parisiens were to lose both games and Lens were to win both of theirs, there is a -15 goal difference to Les Sang et Or to overcome.
No wonder Luis Enrique is confident. “I think that we needed these points. I think that we are already champions. It will be enough, I think, and it allows us to prepare on an individual level the two final matches to then prepare for the Champions League final (against Arsenal). You have to highlight what Lens have done all season. They have been at an incredible level. It has been very difficult for us,” said the PSG manager in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
