Luís García Fernández named Demichelis replacement at Mallorca | OneFootball

According to Superdeporte, Mallorca have moved quickly after Martin Demichelis’s unexpected departure to Leipzig, appointing Luís García Fernández to take charge. He has signed until June 2027, with an additional season dependent on performance. The Spaniard arrives after falling just short of a promotion final with UD Las Palmas.

His coaching career began as assistant with KAS Eupen’s under-21s in 2018. He later led Espanyol during parts of the 2022-2023 season and again in 2023-2024. Before joining Las Palmas, he worked with Qatar as Tintín Márquez’s assistant and was in temporary charge for five matches.

García is regarded as approachable, though a strong personality has brought the odd clash with players. His teams are built on defensive security. In possession he prefers to play out from the back and control the ball.

He already knows the island, having played for Mallorca in 2004/2005. He made 37 appearances, scoring 11 goals and supplying two assists.

The brief is clear, guide Mallorca back to the top flight. Pressure to achieve it will be high.
