Contracts for a raft of big names expire on Tuesday 30 June, unleashing a strong class of free agents. French clubs, squeezed by the TV rights crisis, will watch closely, and some players remain at a World Cup ending on 19 July.
According to L'Équipe, the headline goalkeeper is Yann Sommer, 37, after three seasons as Inter Milan’s number one. Others include Matthew Ryan and Stefan Ortega, while Ilan Meslier, 26, and Samu, 27, could appeal in France, the latter fresh from winning Portugal’s second division with Maritimo.
At right-back, options include Oscar Mingueza, Zeki Celik and veteran Dani Carvajal. In the middle, John Stones and David Alaba are among those expiring, while left-back is thinner, though Raphaël Guerreiro and Alexandre Zintchenko are free from one July.
For Ligue 1 shoppers, Malang Sarr, 27, stands out, with Chancel Mbemba and Aïssa Mandi also available. Union Berlin pair Danilho Doekhi and Diogo Leite, both 27, fit top-half profiles, and William Mikelbrencis, 22, offers value at right-back.
Several marquee midfielders are out of contract, including Casemiro, Fabinho, Leon Goretzka, Luka Modric, Franck Kessié, James Rodriguez and Daichi Kamada. Closer to home, Nabil Bentaleb, Sofiane Boufal and Nabil Fekir are on the market.
Up front, Paulo Dybala, Mauro Icardi and Robert Lewandowski, 37, headline the names. Dusan Vlahovic, 26, will try to relaunch after four and a half frustrating years at Juventus. Bamba Dieng, 26, hit 15 goals for Lorient and has not renewed, while Afimico Pululu scored 15 in Poland.
