Following the match, Modric took part in a heartfelt post-game interview, where he was asked to recall the moments he will never forget at the Bernabeu.

Struggling to choose just one from a long list of iconic performances, the Croatian maestro paused before landing on what many fans will agree was one of the most extraordinary nights in modern Real Madrid history.

“Wow… Just at the Bernabeu or in general?” Modric said with a smile.

“There were so many incredible games. I don’t know what to tell you. But for me, this penultimate Champions League – the comebacks against Paris, Chelsea, City.

“If I have to choose one, it is Paris Saint-Germain. Because I said: ‘If we win this game, we will win the Champions League.’

And that’s how it was. That’s why, if I have to choose one, even though it’s very difficult, I choose this game.”

Modric was, of course, referring to the famous Champions League run during the 2021-22 season. In particular, the second-leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain in March 2022 remains a standout.

Real Madrid were trailing 2–0 on aggregate with just 30 minutes left when Karim Benzema inspired an astonishing comeback.

But behind that revival was Modri, tirelessly covering ground, dictating the tempo, and delivering the killer pass that ignited Madrid’s belief.

That night, Real Madrid eliminated one of the favourites, marking the beginning of a historic campaign that culminated in the club lifting its 14th Champions League trophy.

Modric’s role in that run was immense, proving that even in the twilight of his career, he remained the heartbeat of Madrid’s midfield.
