Illan Meslier has been showered with tributes from Leeds United favourites after posting an emotional farewell on Instagram as he leaves the club.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds confirmed his exit after his contract expired last week. The 26-year-old ends a seven-year spell, collecting two Championship title-winner’s medals and memories of being a Premier League regular under Marcelo Bielsa.
His final couple of years did not go to plan, he was replaced by Karl Darlow and did not play a first-team game last season. Even so, he remained a popular figure in the dressing room.
In his message he recalled arriving in 2019 as a 19-year-old and discovering a club like no other with unmatched support. He thanked fans and staff, and said that after seven years he is ready for a new challenge, while Leeds will always be part of him.
Team-mates past and present replied. Luke Ayling urged him to be proud and praised his character, Stuart Dallas offered best wishes, and Pascal Struijk said it had been a pleasure. Josuha Guilavogui voiced faith in him from day one, and Willy Gnonto called him a legend.
Joel Piroe wished him luck, Barry Douglas sent warm words to his tall French friend, and Sebastiaan Bornauw lauded both goalkeeper and person. Dani van den Heuvel also wished him well.
