Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, better known as Lumumba Vea, was in the stands as DR Congo faced Colombia at the World Cup, but the Leopards fell 1-0.
According to L'Équipe, the iconic supporter had been delayed by a 21-day quarantine under Ebola protocols in his country. He missed the 1-1 opener against Portugal, then travelled to Mexico in time for this second match at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara.
A star of the last Africa Cup of Nations, his colourful presence accompanied the Leopards’ run to the round of 16 in 2025. This time it could not lift them to victory.
The contest was settled in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday by a Daniel Muñoz strike for Colombia.
DR Congo have yet to win a match at the World Cup. They and Lumumba Vea will try to change that against Uzbekistan in the early hours of Sunday, kick-off 1.30am.
