The Luxembourg Football Federation said on Thursday that its board had terminated, with immediate effect, the contract of women’s national team coach Daniel Santos after several reports of serious misconduct, including inappropriate messages sent to some players.

The sacking followed 0-5 and 7-0 defeats to Scotland earlier in March in 2027 World Cup qualifying, though the decision was not linked to results.

The federation acted without delay to protect the players concerned and to preserve the integrity of the sporting environment.

Testimonies gathered and a clear loss of trust among players made further collaboration impossible, prompting his dismissal.

The behaviour occurred within a relationship of authority and responsibility and was deemed contrary to the FLF’s ethical values and required standards of respect. Santos had been in post since 2020.

The federation also offered its support to the affected players.
