Lyon have shaken up their performance department, parting company with performance director Rick Cost and club doctor Manuel Afonso.

According to L'Équipe, the club made the decision before the restart, and the pair will be replaced soon.

The move forms part of efforts to further improve results this summer, with changes extending beyond the player transfer market to the backroom structure.

Last season the team was hit by numerous injuries and, in many cases, lengthy recovery periods that affected performance.

The protocols in place are not necessarily being blamed, but the hierarchy felt something had to change, and the two experienced professionals have borne the consequences.
