Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Palmer revealed a little about how he had been managing this tough recent period.

Palmer on “social media trolls” and the pressure

“I just felt normal [through the goal drought]. Obviously sh** happens, I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team,” the midfielder said.

“Social media nowadays is full of idiots, the trolls and whatever. I don’t pay any attention to that. I’ve scored today and I’m happy but it’s only one and I’ve got to keep improving and try and reach new levels. If you’re getting chances and not scoring, you’re letting your team down in the end.”

The modest Palmer also made sure to show some love to midfielder partner Moises Caicedo who had a brilliant game alongside him today:

“Today I felt like myself, like I was before recent times. I felt confident, I was trying things, first time passes, playing forward, playing free. Obviously when you’ve got [Caicedo] next to you, it’s a dream really,” Palmer said of the Ecuador star.

“Wow. He’s a machine… from the start of the season to now he’s been our best player. Wins everything back always, 100% effort always, everyone loves him.”
