Emmanuel Macron hosted and congratulated Paris Saint-Germain at the Élysée a day after their Champions League triumph over Arsenal, but condemned violent incidents that followed celebrations in several French cities.

According to L'Équipe, the president addressed the team on Sunday at the Élysée. PSG drew 1-1 after extra time in Budapest, then won 4-3 on penalties to secure a second successive title under Luis Enrique.

The victory sparked widespread joy among Paris supporters and beyond. The night was also marked by 780 arrests.

Macron denounced the disorder as unacceptable and said it was not representative of football or sport. He thanked police and gendarmes, adding that authorities would be uncompromising with those detained.

He further saluted the work of the security services, thanking the interior minister, the Paris police prefect and all teams mobilised.
