Mike Maignan displayed his ideal characteristics once again on the eve of a big game, as the AC Milan captain refused to answer a question on his future.
In the past few months, there have been a few questions that have never died; Will Sergio Conceicao stay? Will Theo Hernandez stay? Will Mike Maignan stay? Of course, none are easy to give a yes or no answer to, with each needing context.
So, when asked about his future once again, this time by SportMediaset, Maignan was rather coy in his response, as Milan News relays.
You are one step away from the finish line, the trophies won this year would be two. How much desire is there?
“If you ask this question to all the players, they will all answer that they want to win this match. It is a very important match for both teams and we know that it will be different from the last match: it will be difficult, we must be focused and give everything to win this title.”
In case of penalty kicks, could you take one?
“We don’t know the story of tomorrow’s game, but we have to be ready for all the episodes. There’s nothing to avoid if we want to win.”
Moncada recently said that they are working day after day for the renewal of Maignan, can you tell us your point of view? How long would you like to stay at Milan?
“My point of view today is only for tomorrow’s match. There will come a time when we can all talk about this situation, but today I prefer to talk about tomorrow.”
Would everything be easier with one more trophy?
“With one more trophy, life is more beautiful, for sure.”
It is understandable why this would be the case regardless of the fixture list, after all, there is no need to put pressure on the situation. Furthermore, as the club’s captain, he will want to set an example of professionalism.
However, it is the fact that on the eve of a Coppa Italia final the question arose, as it probably always was going to, and he shut it down, only focusing on the team. A true display of leadership, even if it is a basic one at that.
