Milan had rejected an approach from Chelsea in the summer, and now run the very real risk of losing Mike Maignan as a free agent.
The goalkeeper and club captain is only under contract until June 2026, and the negotiations for an extension appear to have hit a brick wall in recent months.
This situation saw him targeted by Chelsea in the weeks before the FIFA Club World Cup, but the Rossoneri turned down their proposal worth just €15m.

He has now started the new season under coach Max Allegri and is the inevitable first choice for the gloves.
However, time is running out for Milan to reach an agreement to extend his contract, or run the very real risk of losing Maignan as a free agent at the end of the season.
According to Calciomercato.com, the negotiations for a new deal have been static for months and the chances of an extension are very low.

Chelsea would be the favourites to come back in for the France international, potentially as early as the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old joined Milan from LOSC in 2021 for €16.4m, when he was a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left for Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
