Sky Germany reports that Mainz has reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Braunschweig striker Rayan Philippe over a move in the summer.
The 24-year-old is keen on leaving Braunschweig, who are fighting to avoid dropping into the relegation playoff spot in the 2.Bundesliga.
His contract is valid until 2025, but Braunschweig has an option to extend the deal by another year, however, it is unknown if the contract would be valid in the 3.Liga in the event that Braunschweig is relegated. This is usually the case with contracts in the 2.Bundesliga, and then Philippe could leave on a free transfer.
This season, Philippe has 13 goals and six assists in the 2.Bundesliga. The 24-year-old joined Braunschweig in 2023 on a free transfer from Luxembourg side Hesperange.
A move for Philippe could be Mainz preparing for a potential departure of Jonathan Burkardt in the summer. However, a look at their depth in attack suggests that this may not be the case. Mainz only has Burkardt, Nelson Werper and Arnaud Nordin at the club, while Armindo Sieb is on loan from Bayern Munich.
