Malang Sarr (26) represented France at youth level, without ever making an appearance for the senior side. He has now opened the door to representing Senegal at international level.
Sarr has represented Les Bleus at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21 level. However, despite being an ever-present at youth level, during his time coming through the ranks at OGC Nice, he never made the step-up. Promise shown at Nice saw him move to Chelsea back in 2020, however, his progress then stalled.
Loan spells at FC Porto and AS Monaco did not get his career back on-track and he left the Blues on a free transfer in the summer after a mutual contract termination was agreed with the Premier League side. He has since got his career back on track at RC Lens. The centre-back has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season.
He has now set his sights on playing international football for Senegal, his parents’ country of birth. “If Senegal call, I will be there and would be honoured to answer the call,” he told Taggat. “You have to deserve a call-up and you have to go chasing after it. You have to work hard for it. It is up to me to perform,” added Sarr.
