Roma regained victory and three crucial points in their pursuit of the Champions League, defeating Pisa 3-0.
The star of the night was Donyell Malen, who scored a hat-trick that decided the match and allowed Gasperini’s team to temporarily draw level with Juventus on 57 points.
The Dutch striker broke the deadlock after just three minutes, doubling the lead late in the first half and sealing the win in the second half, before receiving a standing ovation from the Olimpico upon his substitution.
Interviewed by Sky Sport after the match, Malen commented on reaching ten goals for the season: “It’s wonderful for me, and it’s wonderful to be in a team like this.”
Regarding the team’s reaction after the recent difficulties, he added: “We’ve been unlucky in some games, like in Genoa. Those were difficult times, but we’re here.”
Speaking to DAZN, he then emphasized the importance of the result: “It was definitely important to break the deadlock like this. The important thing is the three points.”
Finally, after a statistical comparison with Batistuta, the only player before him to score ten goals in his first twelve Serie A games for Roma, he confessed: “I’ve seen so many clips of him; he was a great player. I want to score more and more.”
