Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. He returns to the Etihad Stadium for another spell, signing a contract that runs until 2029.
The new Man City boss comes with an impressive coaching resume, having enjoyed successful spells in the Championship and Premier League.
Maresca previously worked within the Man City academy set-up and was part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff during the historic treble-winning campaign.
The 46-year-old expressed his delight at returning to familiar surroundings.
He described City as a club he knows inside out and one that offers the ideal environment for a manager to thrive.
Maresca praised the club’s meticulous planning, innovative culture and high standards, insisting he relishes the expectations that come with leading one of Europe’s elite sides.
“I know this club, I know the demands, and I know the expectations,” Maresca said.
“I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak believes the appointment is a natural fit.
He highlighted Maresca’s ambition, intelligence and attacking philosophy as qualities that align perfectly with their footballing identity.
He added that the Italian tactician inherits a squad capable of evolving his tactical vision while building on the club’s remarkable success.
Chief executive Ferran Soriano also revealed that Maresca emerged as the standout candidate during the recruitment process.
He pointed to the Italian’s achievements at Chelsea and Leicester City, alongside his previous contributions at City, as key reasons behind the decision.
Soriano believes Maresca combines integrity, charisma and tactical clarity with an intimate understanding of the club’s culture.
Chelsea will argue that first point. Maresca admitted to walking out on the Blues midway through their 2025/26 campaign after having his head turned.
Having already worked with many of the people behind City’s success, Maresca is expected to settle quickly as he begins the latest chapter of his managerial career.
The Cityzens believes they have found the right candidate to succeed Guardiola and spearhead a new era of domestic and continental success.
