Manchester City are considering a loan move for out-of-favour winger Jack Grealish after it was revealed the club have received no offers for the England international.
Grealish was not part of the City squad who flew to Florida on Friday for the start of the Club World Cup and after a poor season, Pep Guardiola is ready to cut his losses.
City are reportedly demanding around £50m for Grealish, exactly half of what they paid Aston Villa to secure his services back in 2021.
The 29-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal at the Etihad which sees him earn £300,000 per week.
And if there are no willing suitors regarding a permanent transfer, a loan move could well be in the offing.
Grealish starred during City’s historic treble-winning season back in 2023, but he managed just one Premier League goal last term, with Guardiola eventually excluding him from the City squad.
City have moved quickly to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, already splashing out in excess of £100m on four new signings.
Tijjani Reijnders, a midfielder, who joined on Wednesday for £46m, left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri, goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and winger Rayan Cherki.
Their business further indicates that there is no way back for Grealish at City and a move elsewhere would be best for all parties.
Following City’s last match of the Premier League season, Guardiola gave an impassioned speech after leaving Grealish out for victory at Fulham.
The Catalan boss said: “The last two months, month, month-and-a-half, I [left] five, six players at home at a time, and now this time, I decided [that] for these guys. No more than that. I don’t have anything.
“Of course, Jack has to play. That’s the truth. Jack is an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. And it didn’t happen this season, and last season neither. And he needs to do it with us, or another place.
“But that is a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays, we’ll be fine, and he’ll fight like he fought since day one to make a contribution.”
Pressed on his decision to exclude Grealish, Guardiola hit back by claiming: “Who said I’m not happy with him? I said in my words I’m not happy with him?
“The last games he didn’t play. He was on the bench, and Rico [Lewis] – for me, one of the favourite players I have – he was not selected either.
“It’s not anything personal about Jack, absolutely anything. I’m the person who fought [for him] to come here, and fought [for him] to stay here this season and the previous season. The one that said I want Jack with me.”
