Manchester City Sweep Aside Manchester United 3-0 at Etihad

Foden and Haaland Lead the Charge

Manchester City produced a commanding performance to secure a 3-0 win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium, with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland on the scoresheet. After two straight defeats before the international break, Pep Guardiola’s side needed a response and delivered emphatically against their cross-city rivals.

City began with energy and intent, pressing high and dominating possession. Jeremy Doku’s electrifying run on 18 minutes left United’s defence scrambling, and his clever cut-back was met by Foden who powered a header into the net. The early breakthrough gave City control and sent a packed Etihad into raptures.

Haaland Shows His Class

Erling Haaland was a constant menace for Manchester United’s backline. He narrowly missed inside the opening seconds but found his moment early in the second half. Doku once again unlocked United, slipping Haaland through to hold off Luke Shaw before chipping in a superb second goal on 53 minutes.

The Norwegian had a rare miss moments later when he rounded Altay Bayindir but hit the post with the goal at his mercy. However, Haaland was clinical on 68 minutes, bursting clear from halfway and finishing with trademark precision to seal the win.

Donnarumma Impresses on Debut

Italy captain Gianluigi Donnarumma made his City debut following his deadline day move from Paris Saint-Germain and looked assured throughout. He produced a brilliant save to keep out Bryan Mbeumo’s volley, showing why Guardiola was keen to bring him in.

United, meanwhile, offered little cutting edge in attack and looked short of confidence. They drop to 14th in the Premier League table with just one victory so far this season. In contrast, this victory lifts City into eighth and restores belief in their campaign.

Tribute to Ricky Hatton

The match was played in emotional circumstances following the death of Ricky Hatton, the former boxing world champion and lifelong City supporter. The Etihad observed a heartfelt tribute before kick-off, and the players responded with a performance worthy of the occasion.

City fans left celebrating not only three points but a return to form that suggests Guardiola’s side are ready to chase down those above them once more. With Foden’s energy, Doku’s creativity and Haaland’s finishing touch, City looked every bit the title contenders again.
