Manchester City have reportedly taken the lead in the hotly contested race to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, with the Premier League giants prepared to activate the Ghanaian winger’s £65 million release clause, according to TEAMtalk.
The 25-year-old forward has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, drawing widespread attention.
Semenyo’s blend of athleticism and end product has made him one of the most coveted attackers in England, with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City all vying for his signature ahead of the January transfer window.
City manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of Semenyo’s versatility and intensity, viewing him as a player who can operate across the front line or as an impact substitute in key fixtures.
Sources close to the club indicate that City are ready to move quickly once the January window opens, with a formal offer potentially arriving in the first week.
The club’s financial strength means meeting Semenyo’s £65m clause would pose no issue, and personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle, the player is said to be open to a move that would see him compete at the highest level under Guardiola.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been closely monitoring Semenyo’s situation. With ongoing uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future and potential Saudi Pro League offers looming, the Reds see the Bournemouth winger as a ready-made replacement.
Tottenham Hotspur are the third major Premier League side showing concrete interest. Thomas Frank is eager to add more direct attacking options as Spurs push for a top-four finish, and the club is reportedly preparing an initial proposal.
Semenyo’s development has been remarkable. After an inconsistent first campaign, he has flourished this season, becoming one of the most productive forwards in the league.

So far, he has contributed six goals and three assists across all competitions, ranking among the top Premier League players for successful take-ons and progressive carries.
As it stands, Man City appear best positioned to win the race, with Liverpool and Spurs needing to act fast to keep up. Bournemouth are under no pressure to sell but could be tempted if a top club triggers the clause.
