The Manchester City attacking midfielder started in an experimental England team on Friday night, though his evening came to a premature end.

England manager Thomas Tuchel fumed that the tackle was not reviewed by VAR, and the subsequent substitution raised fears over Foden’s participation for Tuesday’s friendly against Japan.

In fact, Araujo has moved to reassure Man City and England fans by revealing that he spoke to Foden after the match and that the 25-year-old said he is fine.

Speaking to El Espectador Deportes, Araujo said: "It was a hard challenge, but obviously I went for the ball without any ill intention.

“After the match I spoke to Phil Foden, I sent him a message. He told me he was fine, that it's just part of the game.

“People make a big deal out of things, but it's clear I was going for the ball. Everyone who knows me knows I don't have bad intentions... If you freeze play, it looks like a very hard challenge, but my intention was to go for the ball.

“Plus, the referee, VAR was there, so I think he judged I was going for the ball.

“The important thing is I spoke with him [Foden], he's okay, and he told me it was no big deal, that it's soccer."

This update will be music to the ears of Man City manager Pep Guardiola as his side’s first game after the international break is an FA Cup quarter-final showdown against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

From there, attentions shift back to the Premier League title race and a visit to London to face Champions League-chasing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on April 12.

A week later, City welcome league leaders Arsenal to the Etihad in a game which has previously been billed as a potential title decider.
