Man City are expected to complete the signing of Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri from Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Chelsea and Everton.
Man City are set to complete the signing of Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri from Sheffield Wednesday ahead of competition from Chelsea and Everton.
The 15-year-old forward, who is the son of former Everton attacker Danny, is very highly-rated by the Owls, with the teenager having enjoyed a prolific campaign at youth level.
Despite his age, Cadamarteri has been playing in a higher group, and he actually finished as top scorer in the U18 Professional Development League.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that he is attracting attention from top clubs in the country, and the Sheffield Star has revealed that all three Premier League sides have made an offer of £1.5m for Cadamarteri, as well as including a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Yet, journalist Fabrizio Romano also provided an update on Cadamarteri, with Man City seemingly the club who are set to secure the teenager.
“Manchester City also working on signing talents for the Academy as they agree deal to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Caelan Cadamarteri. U16 striker, top goal scorer in England for his age, will join Man City project with plan to sign top young talents and developing them.”
It’s also said that Wednesday will push to get a chunk of the fee up front, which would be very welcome considering the off-field issues that are impacting the club right now, with owner Dejphon Chansiri having failed to pay the May wages on time.
Firstly, it should be said that the Owls deserve credit for producing players that are on the radar of clubs like Chelsea and City, as it shows they are doing something right.
Plus, getting £1.5m for a 15-year-old is good business, but it’s a shame for all connected to Wednesday that they aren’t getting to see Cadamarteri in a blue-and-white shirt further down the line.
Like all clubs, the Owls will want to give these youngsters a pathway to the first-team, and, for a mid-table Championship side, it should be a target to get the best academy talents in-and-around the first-team if possible.
Given the circumstances though, the chance to get a decent fee up front is difficult for Wednesday to turn down, and it will be interesting to see how Cadamarteri’s career plays out at City.
