Man City have a major injury worry ahead of cup clash
Manchester City are sweating over the fitness of Erling Haaland after their star striker was substituted early in midweek.
The Norwegian was taken off at half time in the 3-0 win over Fulham on Tuesday, after he had netted his 22nd goal of the campaign.
Pep Guardiola revealed afterwards that the forward had suffered a knock.
"Niggles," Guardiola said about Haaland’s withdrawal.
"Some problems, he feels uncomfortable. It was 3-0 of course. The reason why? Many games.
"I didn't speak with the doctors, I don't know exactly what he has. Just fatigue or something."
City take on Salford City in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend, and Guardiola could look to rest a number of his stars as the Premier League title race intensifies.
Among those will most definitely be first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, so James Trafford will get a rare start in net.
Matheus Nunes, you’d think, will get to sit this one out too, with Rico Lewis struggling for game time in the league.
Ruben Dias is still on his comeback trail from injury and could be set to start here, while Abdukodir Khusanov was withdrawn in the win over Liverpool with a head injury, but returned off the bench in midweek.
Nathan Ake was not in the matchday squad against the Cottagers and could potentially be back in action this weekend, while young defender Max Alleyne could also feature.
John Stones was also among the substitutes in midweek, but was unused.
In midfield, you would expect Nico Gonzalez to come in for Rodri, while Antoine Semenyo may be handed a night off.
In his place, Rayan Cherki could come back into the side, while you would think that Omar Marmoush will lead the line in Haaland’s absence.
Ryan McAidoo scored in the 10-1 decimation of Exeter in the last round and could be handed some more first-team minutes here.
Predicted Man City XI (4-1-4-1): Trafford; Lewis, Dias, Alleyne, Ait-Nouri; Nico; Foden, Reijnders, O’Reilly, Cherki; Marmoush
Injured: Gvardiol, Kovacic, Doku, Savinho
Doubt: Haaland
