Manchester City star Rodri says his Spain team-mate Martin Zubimendi can be “one of the best” in the world – if he is not already there.
The 26-year-old has also stepped up for his national team in the absence of Rodri due to injury, helping his side to victories over Bulgaria and Turkey in their latest World Cup qualifiers.
Rodri suffered another injury setback over the summer at the Club World Cup, having missed almost the entirety of last season after rupturing his ACL, but has returned to action of late.
And the 29-year-old says he knew his national side was in good hands with Zubimendi in the holding midfield role, and believes the Arsenal star will get even better.
“As for Martin, I think he is a great player, I have always said that,” Rodri said.
“With a discipline and a mentality that can lead him to be one of the best, without a doubt, or if not, he is already there.
“And well, as you say, for now it is a great challenge to go to a league like the Premier League, to adapt, to play for a team like Arsenal, and the truth is that I am seeing him very well, also this year with the national team.
“I already talked to him on his day, I remember when I got injured, I wrote to him. It was his time and he had to do it, with the keys of the team.”
